"A dog is a man's best friend," we've all heard and perhaps witnessed at some point in our lives. I wanted to depict the beauty of the owner-pet relationship because pets play such a vital role in our lives. Because pets are a part of our daily lives and families, capturing the bond between the owner and the pet piqued my interest.
Initially, I wanted to capture the similarities and differences between the owner and their pet, but as I went through the process of photographing everyone with their pets, I realized that the bond between the owner and their pet is what makes them look so good together, so forcing that "similarity" effect didn't work in my favor. What made these images successful was simply taking a step back and focusing on the photo itself, as well as the relationships between humans and their pets. It wasn't easy to get shots of both the owner and the pet that looked good, but I just shot quickly as the owner and pet interacted, hoping that something good would emerge in the end. I ended up with some good photos and a lot of bad photos, but in the end, I have eight authentic people and animal shots.
